La Cayetana is one of the most exciting young projects in the Uco Valley of Argentina — a small, grower-driven estate focused on high-elevation, hand-farmed vineyards in the stony soils of Los Chacayes. Emilia Armando and Eduardo Soler purchased a historic property, once a 168 acre vineyard and Manor that was once a meeting place for everyone from Cardinals to Generals. They began to restore the property, and released their first wine in 2020.
While not a grape synonymous with Argentinean wine, we absolutely adore their 2022 Syrah!
Fermented with 50% whole clusters and aged in neutral French oak, the wine is all about purity and lift. Dark blue and black fruits mingle with violet, lavender, white pepper, and a savory black-olive nuance, carried by that signature Los Chacayes mineral tension. Fine tannins and a modest 13.6% alcohol keep it beautifully balanced and refined.
Pair this with grilled lamb chops or or with mushroom risotto. We do recommend a short decant before drinking, as it really opens up with air.
